Lithuania meets Serbia

The last game of the first stage at Women’s 17 EHF Championship was Lithuania vs Finland. Group B competitors fought for the second place which would guarantee the semifinal game against the winner of group A, Serbia.

Finland started the game strongly and went ahead but at 17th minute Lithuania seized the lead and won the first half 14:11.
At the 5th minute of the second half, Finland equalized (15:15), but Lithuania didn’t let the rivals to seize the initiative and increased pressure.

As a result, Lithuania won 34:23.

So, Lithuania meets Serbia in semis and Finland meets Faroe Islands for the 5-7 places.

The best player from Lithuania was Martyna Ustilaite (CB) and from Finland Sara Sandelin (LB).

Martyna Ustilaite, the best player of Lithuania: We made some mistakes, but I think that we worked really hard and showed what we’ve got. I think we will work a lot on defense and attack also and hope for the best.

Tomas Mecklin, head coach of Finland: We saw really good handball from both teams, both had really good defense. In the second half we didn’t play in defense as strongly as the opponent did, so I think that took part in loosing the game today. Today’s match was both good and bad.
