Georgia’s tough win

Group B of Women’s 17 EHF Championship continued with the game: Georgia vs Latvia. The hosts of the tournament, Georgia lost the first match and won the second. Latvia lost both.

From the very beginning, the Georgians took the lead, but they could not achieve a notable advantage. The reason for the low score was a good defense game of both teams. Once again stood out goalkeeper of Georgia Khatia Jikurashvili, but in the end of the first half one of the leaders of Georgian team Elizaveta Chkhaidze was sent off with direct red card.

First half ended 11:9.

On the 7th minute of the second half Latvia equalized – 13:13 and then took the lead (13:14; 13:15) but Georgia kept fighting. The score several times was equal: 18:18; 19:19; 20:20. In the end Georgia won 24:21.

The best player of team Georgia was named Khatia Jikurashvili (GK) and of Latvia Anna Aleksa Stankevica (LB).

Khatia Jikurashvili: Todays game was very tense. The opposition team were good. Our girls did everything they could. Every player had it’s share in today’s victory.

Anna Aleksa Stankevica: We played well today, but we could’ve done better. Our opponents are pretty good but I think that we are on the same level.
